Bridal Bouquet

Bridal bouquet.... yippie!!.... finally... my most awaited lesson :) As this is not for real customer, flowers used were not so fresh anymore – just for demo and class purpose.

The shape was the famous dome shape – small and cute for a bridal bouquet.

1. One type of flower with long stem, filled with statice and casphia

And welcome the young models.... (sifu's grandchildren). They are really cute and adorable, been 'lekat' with me throughout the lesson, haha. They seemed excited as I am... as if they knew I'm making a bridal bouquet! And they even volunteered to hold the bouquet and pose for photos. Pretty bride in the making.

She's so cute, feel wanna 'cubit' her cheeks...haha...really 'betahan'...

The brother is really cheeky and poser 'gila'..... Notice the bouquet has longer stem, wrapped with satin ribbon and pinned with pins. It has to sit in a jar filled with water when it's not in use. This type is mostly popular with the Americans, but I think is also quite popular here....just that with shorter stem.

2. Grouping of several type of flowers, with shorter stem
Various outcomes can be achieved by using grouping method. It's all up to our creativity on how we want the bouquet to look like.... as long as it's not too overwhelming.

First 2 groupings were demo by my 'sifu'

This one is done by me, 100% by me :)

The shorter stem version – has wet cotton inside to keep the bouquet fresh

Hand bouquet – Graduation

This was my first time doing hand bouquet. 'Sifu' did it and at the same time teaching and letting me do bits of here and there. Client requested a dome shape bouquet, with red and white roses, wrapped in green papers.

This ribbon is not easy to do – 2 layers somemore! I'm still practicing doing the 1 layer ribbon.... lots of twist and turn and holding it at the right place :)

Hand bouquet – Astro Singing Competition

These beautiful and colourful bouquets were made by my 'sifu', I'm not involved... yet :) They were for Astro singing competition (oldies songs) held in Genting. I wanted to post these photos simply because I love those colours and fresh flowers! Those bouquets were sprinkled with shiny gold dust to make them shimmer under spotlights.

Wedding deco - Paul & Claire

I'm glad that I was given the opportunity to help out and decorate the ballroom for the wedding of Paul & Claire. They had their wedding reception at Nikko Hotel, occupying the Grand Ballroom with 50 tables in total. The theme was tiffany blue and white. They were 2 seniors and 3 juniors (including myself) helping Carol to decorate the ballroom.

It was indeed an exciting experience for me as it was my first time going behind the scene, seeing how florists decorate for a wedding reception. We unloaded boxes and pails of flowers using huge trolleys, passing by kitchen in order to get into the ballroom (basically using the 'back way'). Once we're in the ballroom, we had a short briefing from Carol, she did one sample, and voila... all of us started working without many instructions. Although we juniors were first timers, we seemed know what we need to do... wahseh... not bad :)

Seniors, Amy and Mandy did all the flower arrangements for VIP/main table and also flowers to decorate the aisle, whereas we juniors, Yan, Tracy and myself, did the small small flower arrangements for all the 50 tables. We trimmed gerberas into 3 different lengths, tied them together (tip of stems were covered with rose's leaf) and put into bowl filled with water (photo below). Besides a bowl of gerberas, each table was filled with rose petals and few tea candles. While we're busy with flowers, AV people were busy testing the audio and projectors (get to see the video slides) and Nikko staff were doing rounds of rehearsal. Even the couple also did rehearsal and checking stuff here and there.

Three gerberas in a bowl. One of them is basically left floating freely on the water – I suggested this idea to Carol :). Second one is nicely covering the bowl's mouth and the third one being the highest.

We started around 1.30pm and ended around 5pm++, just nice before the cocktail starts. Before we leave, we managed to peak into the couple's pre-wedding album :). Not bad... all outdoor shots... one I remembered the most was a shot in Sepang, the couple was flanked with few Ferraris!

OK, enough talking, photos time :). Oh ya, did I mention we got paid for helping out? That was a bonus as I didn't expect to receive any payment – more of wanting to get the experience.

Decoration for main table. Flowers: Madonna lilies, white roses, white eustomas, white gerberas, blue hydrangeas, coupled with baby breaths.

Flowers for the aisle

Decoration at the foyer (cocktail area) and registration table. Spot the cute toy car full with pom-pom.

Wedding car

Decorating a wedding car is really what I've been looking forward to in this course. We're lucky because our 'sifu' managed to arrange for another 'sifu' named Amy to demo on how she decorates a wedding car. Amy demonstrated how she tied red organza to the Bentley (I supposed it's a Bentley!), and later 'sifu' decorated the car with fresh flowers. I managed to learn to tie one side of the organza and later helping 'sifu' cutting/trimming roses for her to do the arrangements. Red roses, white roses and white eustoma were the flowers and colors requested by client.

Beginning step: Tying organza to the car. Organza must be tied strongly, or else... Amy chose not to tie the organza to the front screen because it will block and might spoil the vipers if rains.

The 'after' look
The scent of fresh flowers filling the air!
